C+kW 16: Will the Rivian EV Fast Charging Network Remain Exclusive?

From Plug and Play EV.

The Rivian Adventure Network promises 600+ DC fast chargers in key locations across North America by the end of 2023, so why isn’t it receiving greater acclaim? The answer most likely lies in the network’s exclusivity, which means that despite using the public CCS standard, only Rivian models will be able to charge at these stations.

Even though Rivian is funding the entire initiative, is there an argument to suggest that the brand would be better served by catering to all EV owners using CCS? From environmental and economic reasons to the more inclusive approach of the Rivian Waypoints network, this episode of Coffee + Kilowatts explores why the company’s fast charging locations might not be exclusive forever.

What do you think of the Rivian Adventure Network and Waypoints public stations? Will the automaker stick to its funs using DCFC as a unique selling point or should it eventually look to make money by offering the service to all EV drivers? Let us know in the comments!
