The 2025 Corvette ZR1 has done something remarkable – using just the two rear wheels, it has managed to accelerate to 60 mph quicker than the AWD Corvette E-ray, which at 655 horsepower is no slouch, hitting 60 in 2.7 seconds (2.5 seconds deleting rollout). But the ZR1, sending 1064 horsepower to the rear wheels, manages it in just 2.5 seconds (2.3 seconds deleting rollout). This makes the ZR1 the quickest RWD production car Car and Driver has ever tested (hitting 2.2s w/ rollout in their testing).

I previously predicted the C8 Corvette would top out at 2.76 seconds, and yet it has surpassed this easily! In this video we’ll break down the exact procedure to get this 0-60 time to work, and talk about where my math went wrong. We’ll also look into the Corvette ZR1’s secret redline (over the stated 8000 RPM) which allows it to hit its 233 mph top speed! And we’ll discuss what it is like to drive (ZR1 review), on track in Austin, Texas at Circuit of the Americas (COTA). Can it handle the 100º F ambient track temps? Will it overheat? Can the chassis handle 1,064 horsepower? Watch the video for all the engineering insight!
