Fire at Tesla Giga Berlin: Tesla Critics Demand Production Stop

From Torque News.

Fire broke out on the premises of Tesla Gigafactory Berlin, prompting longtime critics of Tesla Giga Berlin electric vehicle plant to call for an immediate halt to the plan’s activities. The incident happened on early Monday morning.

A pile of cardboard caught fire on the Grünheide factory premises of the US car manufacturer Tesla. The fire brigade was able to put out the fire in the meantime. According to the district, extinguishing agents have also gotten into the ground.

Accordingly, the Oderland regional control center was informed about a fire around 3:30 a.m., as a spokesman confirmed. On request, the district administration said that the recycling center on the premises of the US electric car manufacturer was affected and that a total of around 800 cubic meters of pressed paper balls and wood materials burned. According to eyewitnesses, there was smoke and odor nuisance during the night.

For the extinguishing work, emergency services from the Grünheide office and a rotary ladder vehicle from the city of Erkner were also called in. A total of 52 firefighters were deployed. In the meantime, the flames have been extinguished and the emergency services from Grünheide and Erkner have been withdrawn, confirmed district fire master Klaus-Peter Schulz.

After that, Tesla Giga Berlin’s own fire brigade took over the command of the operation. However, external firefighters should continue to be on site to support the extinguishing work. Two excavators with grabs have begun tearing apart the tied cardboard bales so the packaging materials can be completely unloaded, Schulz said.

The cause of the fire has not yet been clarified. According to a spokeswoman, the police have started the investigation. According to the German Press Agency, shredding work could have triggered the fire. A police spokesman did not confirm this. No one was injured in the fire.
