The Government has announced a brand-new EV road tax — called eVED — and honestly… it’s incredibly misguided.
From 2028, EV drivers will be charged 3p per mile, and PHEVs 1.5p per mile, increasing every year with inflation. For the average driver doing 7,000 miles, that’s £210 on top of the existing £195 VED. Yes, you read that right: it’ll cost more to tax an EV than a diesel.
But does that actually make EVs more expensive to run?
