Many of us were worried that Subaru would abandon their well-known AWD capability in the search for greater fuel economy, but those worries were baseless because we now know all about the 3rd generation Crosstrek Hybrid! Rather than reinventing the wheel, the 3rd gen system is basically the same as the previous-gen Crosstrek PHEV (Plug In Hybrid) with updated motors from Toyota. Yep, Toyota is still the hybrid-daddy for Subaru, and that’s not a bad thing at all. The hybrid system still operates exactly the same as a Toyota hybrid with two big exceptions: Subaru uses their well known boxer engines up front, and in the back we still find the same mechanical AWD system found in other Subaru models. If you were worried that the new Crosstrek would go e-AWD, well, breathe a sigh of relief.
