From Joe Tegtmeyer.
Today marks a major milestone for Giga Texas and Tesla as it was exactly 5 years ago today when the official announcement of the location & start of construction for this massive factory commenced! This also coincides with my 5 years of drone coverage of Giga Texas, so that makes this anniversary that much more special for me!
In this video, I discuss the original announcements and plans for the new factory, and give comparison views from today and back on my very first video at nearly the same vantage point on the side of the main highway, looking east over the site. These two perspectives separated by 5 years really helps set the stage of all the changes the have taken place in this time.
I then provide some very rare drone footage (by Jack Farrington, one of the original Quad Squad members) of the future construction site before any preparation work had commenced. This footage is different that every other video clips you will see as the entire site was completely undisturbed, which brings a true appreciation for the immense challenge just clearing the land, removing the hills, valleys and ponds left over from the now abandoned sand and gravel mining operations, and clearing the overgrown vegetation the initial crews faced in starting this project.
I then go year by year, shown video clips and snapshot images all over the site and in 3-month intervals within each year to gauge the speed of progress and visual changes that took place each year. While I do that, I voice over the footage, discussing insights, behind the scene details and specific challenges that needed to be overcome along the way.
I also want to say than you to the entire Tesla team fro trusting me to provide a worldwide audience a small glimpse into what has gone into the construction of this factory while simultaneously ramping up production. Finally, I wanted to say thanks for the very special invitation to tour the factory today, on this 5 year anniversary!
