DOJO Cancelled, but Why? Lots of Production Deliveries Today! 11 Aug 2025 Giga Texas Update(07:45AM)

From Joe Tegtmeyer.

Gigafactory Texas! This is where Model Y’s, and Cyber Truck production happens and in 2025, the Next Generation Car(s), Cybercab & the Optimus Robot!

In the video introduction today, I discuss the recent decision to cancel the DOJO project within Tesla, some of the stated reasons by Elon and the company, and then I go on to show there is much more going on within the overall AI industry and academia that likely forced the hand of Tesla to make this decision.

During the time DOJO was developed, from initial announcement in 2019 to today, there has been a significant amount of investment, development, and real-world experience gained about AI and how best to approach training and inference computing. DOJO was always a hedge for Tesla to try to ensure they had a plan B.

In the meantime, NVIDIA has come to dominate the market, with H100 and H200, among other GPUs, but also, hardware advances, thoughts on data (both real world and synthetic) have evolved and much of what Tesla was trying to do with DOJO was being overcome by events out of Tesla’s controls.

As Elon just said on X, “Once it became clear that all paths converged to AI6, I had to shut down Dojo and make some tough personnel choices, as Dojo 2 was now an evolutionary dead end. Dojo 3 arguably lives on in the form of a large number of AI6 SoCs on a single board.”

I go through some of the current industry and academia thinking on AI, Inference, Training and the convergence of these, the growing realization that synthetic data, augmented with real-world data, and the need for bias free, clean data is driving real and significant chances in the AI and hardware space.

I also discuss what, if any changes this major decision might have at Giga Texas with the in-progress construction of Cortes 2, the Megapack #2 and the electrical switchyard, along with continued work to finish out Cortex 1 at the south end of the main factory.

Around the site, we see many trucks arriving around the site, particularly on the SW material staging yard and as these trucks are unloaded, it is clear this is production line equipment! I think this is related to Cybercab production, which is a great sign, if perhaps a little later than expected.

Cortex 2 exterior wall work is proceeding quickly, with all the panels installed and a lot of the seam sealer, texture coating and final white stain applied. Crews were also making progress on the roofing materials, installing insulation panels and then weatherproof membranes on top. The work on the roof continues to proceed from the south to the north.

The crash testing facility seemed busy with many test vehicles arranged along the west side, and the crash testing wall itself was installed on the south end under the black half curtains.

Work on the switchyards new underground vault has made a lot of progress, with most of the roof forms installed along with forms outlining the three rectangular openings on the roof where eventually the three control trailers will be installed. Additionally, the concrete tunnel connection to the original switchyard vault was completed, just waiting for back fill and then the top concrete panels installed.
