2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid Review | Subie’s Smallest SUV Gets Toyota Hybrid Tech

From Alex on Autos.

This isn’t the first time Subaru stuffed a hybrid system into the Crosstrek, nor is it the first time that hybrid system had a dash of Toyota tech, but this is by far the best. In a nutshell, Subaru took the core hybrid components from Toyota, rotated them 90 degrees and jammed it all inside Subaru’s AWD transmission case. The combo is good for almost 200 horsepower and 36 MPG. That maybe 6 MPG below Toyota’s Corolla Cross, but Subaru’s big win is the AWD system. Instead of getting an e-axle like we find in a CX-50 hybrid, or that Corolla Cross, Subaru opted to use the exact same mechanical AWD system as a normal Crosstrek.
