From InsideEVs.
Your favorite odd couple is back: me and Editor-in-Chief Patrick George. This time we’re behind the wheel of something that actually may have more of a bearing on U.S. market cars — the Lynk & Co 900. This plug-in hybrid promises to hit all the right notes of an electric car melded with a gas-powered one. It’s not an EREV, but it can act like one.
This was during this year’s Shanghai Auto Show. Patrick and I were carted off about two hours from Shanghai to Hangzhou, which is the home base of Lynk & Co’s parent company, Geely.
We’ve talked about this car before here at InsideEVs, and both of us were impressed with the level of refinement and power of the 900. For those who don’t know, the 900 Lynk & Co’s flagship SUV. It is based on a modified platform used in the Volvo XC90 called SPA Evo, and is strictly a plug-in hybrid. The front half of the car has either 1.5 or 2.0-liter turbo engines mated to Geely’s “dedicated hybrid system”, while the electrified car part comes from big motors and batteries that match what you’d find in a high-performance EV. The unit we drove had 52.4 kWh of battery, and three electric motors that could deliver a stunning 845 horsepower.
