Gigafactory Texas! This is where Model Y’s, and Cyber Truck production happens and in 2025, the Next Generation Car(s), Cybercab & the Optimus Robot!
The day started out with nice sunshine and just a few clouds in the sky, but it was raining fairly hard by the time I was just finishing up my drone flight today! Fortunately, I was able to get in a full flight duration just before having to take cover from the heavy rain coming down!

The big news items we discuss in the video introduction today are the further expansion of the Robotaxi service area in Austin and the start of Robotaxi service in and around the San Francisco, CA area!
This also follow Waymo increasing its service areas, so the robotaxi battles are officially underway, and we now get to find out which company has the better plan, technology, approach and fleet management systems to scale, along with how large and fast this scaling can happen.
I think competition is good and having more than one player in the autonomous ride hailing service arena is great for the overall autonomous vehicle movement.
I also discuss new Model Y production line hours, starting this week. For most of 2025, Model Y General Assembly has been 06:00 to 16:30 Monday – Thursday, but that just recently changes. Starting from 31 July 2025, these hours have been increased to 06:00 to 18:00 Monday – Thursday until at least sometime in the month of September.
In my opinion, this is likely in response to several factors, including 1) A big 3rd quarter push with many new car incentives by Tesla, 2) The expiration of the Federal Government $7,500 EV Rebates at the end of September, 3) The start of being able to write off the new car interest on your 2025 Taxes if you are in the USA, and 4) This chance may allow more Robotaxi Model Y production for expanding service areas.
Also, in my opinion, the new “lower cost car”, which will be heavily based on the Model Y per discussions at the 2nd Quarter Financial Results Meeting held about 2 weeks ago, is likely not going to be available until the 4th quarter of this year.
