Refreshed & Camouflaged Model Y’s! New Megapack site rework! 12 Feb 2025 Giga Texas Update (08:45AM)

From Joe Tegtmeyer.

Gigafactory Texas! This is where Model Y’s, Cyber Truck the Next Generation Car(s), Cybercab & the Optimus Robot production happens in 2025!

Another cloudy day following severe thunderstorms and heavy rain yesterday, and the amount of standing water and mud is evident as we fly around the site today. Despite this, it was another milestone day here at Giga Texas with a first of its kind camouflaged Model Y near the main factory exit point where newly built Model Ys are prepared for driving over to the west End-of-Line (EOL) facility.

The biggest news of the day, however, was the large group of new Refresh Launch edition Model Ys at the outbound lot! I had heard rumors this was going to be the case as production is beginning to ramp up beyond the final qualification testing and this shows without a doubt that this is what is occurring.

About 30 or so new Model Ys were visible on the west side today and I imagine that will change to hundreds a day by the end of the week, especially since customers with reservation numbers are getting notifications of delivery starting as early as next week!

What is also noticeable is simultaneous production of both the original and the new Model Y’s is happening, with a grouping of several hundred of the older style Model Ys on the north and west sides of the outbound lot. I also noted Cybertruck production is happening, but it is still at a somewhat reduced pace from the highest point we saw last summer. I suspect Tesla is still diverting some of the Cybertruck production employees to the Model Y production lines to help with the changeover and ramp up.

As far as construction, the main areas I want to highlight today are the location where the old concrete batch plant was located, the south end of the electrical switchyard. and the west side of the south extension where the wind line correction is underway. These are the areas which showed most of the visible changes today.

The window line work on the west side of the south extension shows crews continue to reconfigure the interface between the original and the new exterior walls. Interestingly, an angled beam is being installed sloping downwards from left to right (as you look at the building), which is opposite of what I had expected. With all the windows and concrete wall panels removed, it is easy to see the underlying structure and what the crews are doing.

At the old concrete batch plant, almost nothing of the original operations site and equipment remains today. we do see demolition of one large tank, while earthmoving had made tremendous progress leveling out most of the graded area. Because of the heavy rains last night, most of the earthmoving vehicles were parked during the time I flew, most likely waiting for the ground and mud to dry up.

Finally, rework is underway of several parts of the north end of the graded Megapack location just south of the electrical switchyard. Many of the beams and pier top plated have been removed and some excavation work is underway. In addition, more fill dirt was being delivered to the west side of the graded area.

One other item of note is at the switchyard was the apparent connections and energizing of the new this transformer. the swing-type disconnects were engaged today, so at least some portion of this newly installed system is getting electrical power. I did not expect to see this until the new Megapack site was completed.
