The Tesla Cybertruck has to be the most polarizing truck on the market today. The truck was originally promised to come with 500 miles of range for about $70k. 4 years later, the Foundation Series launched with up to 340 miles of range and a price tag of $100k. Now that non-Foundation Series Cybertrucks are delivering, you can get an AWD Cybertruck for $80k.
But the real question is of the EPA rated range of 325 on core wheels, and 318 on Cyber Wheels, what’s the real world range on this truck? I set off to find out for myself after finally receiving the wheel covers for my Cyber Wheels.
My truck is a Foundation Series AWD Cybertruck, and comes with the Cyber Wheels, meaning it has an EPA rated range of 318 miles when new. But my Cybertruck already has 30k miles on it, and that 30k miles was pretty intense on the truck. This truck has supercharged well over half of its life since new, has driven all the way to the Arctic Ocean, and has done plenty of off roading since I took delivery in March of this year. With all of that, the on screen displayed range at 100% has dropped from 318 down to 312 miles. This 6 miles in range drop is almost unbelievable given how hard this truck has been driven.
So with 100% charge, the Cybertruck will be doing 70 MPH on the highway, lowest suspension height, tires to max sidewall rating (62 PSI), wheel covers installed, and air conditioning set to 69 degrees. Weather conditions are as ideal as I could get for this late in the year, started at 71 degrees and saw as low as 61 degrees during the drive with dense fog towards the end. I will head one direction until I hit 50% charge and then turn around and head back on the same route.
The results shocked even me. I have never range tested a Tesla that got this close to EPA rated range, and this one has 30k hard miles on it! The performance in this range test would suggest that the Cybertruck 4680 battery cells are out-performing in longevity compared to the 2170 cells in our 2021 Tesla Model Y.
