Tunnel Stainless Steel, Cooling Plant Work, & Crash Testing! 13 Dec 2024 Giga Texas Update (07:25AM)

From Joe Tegtmeyer.

Gigafactory Texas! This is where Model Y’s, and Cyber Truck production happens and soon, the Next Generation Car!

Warmer day but cloudy and rains threatening all morning, so I decided to get here early and try to fly before all the wet weather arrived and things worked out pretty well. Lots of activity all over the site today including extensive Cybercab testing, Switchyard steel and transformer assembly, and Crash Testing Facility activity with the rotisserie and a Cybertruck.

In the video introduction, I combine some of my footage and knowledge of the Boring Company tunnel with recent postings by Steve Jurvetson (a long time Tesla, SpaceX and Boring Company supporter and investor) during his recent visits to the Boring Company facility in Bastrop, Texas and the Giga Texas tunnel.

In addition, I show you a new boring company tunnel segment display just outside their Bastrop, Texas production facility, and both a look at the entrance and exits of the hyper loop tunnel, but also a drive through that tunnel which is very similar to what you would see at the Giga Texas tunnel if you were to drive through it! Big thanks to Steve for posting his images and video clips!

A few of the big things to look for today include:

The west Boring Company Cybertunnel is getting its stainless-steel skin installed on the Cybertruck-inspired covering structure as well as electrical systems and a mount fro what may be a large Tesla lighted sign next to the tunnel. I am hearing both Tesla and the Boring Company are still pushing for a late next week operational date with Christmas as the latest possible date.

We see the supercharger stations located on the south end of west End-of-Line (EOL) facility are getting large white painted steel posts installed and this is most likely for the long-awaited canopy structure! There is an auger at work preparing a few more of the holes for these posts and then we should begin to see some of the superstructure installed soon!

On the west side of the south extension, where the roadway exits the factory (and serves and an emergency path for vehicles in cast the tunnel was inoperable), we see the roadway just inside the factory here has had traffic railings installed, while work to finish covering the trenched exit area and the rest. of the underground utilities continues.

Also on the south extension, a lot more Sedak glass in crates has been delivered today and is being prepared for installation by crews on the west side, while other crews have expanded the yellow security fencing on the southeast side where crews were setting up the crane which will be used to install the glass on the southeast corner of the extension.

Near the area where the glass will be installed, I noticed another big change today and this was the Cortex cooling plant ground level had been fully enclosed in plastic sheeting. I don’t know if this is to protect from cold or rainy weather or if some additional work inside is underway that requires the area to be fully protected from the elements, but in any case, it was dramatic to see the entire lower structure covered in plastic sheeting.

The electrical switchyard expansion continues, with the new A-frame assembled, crews installing more equipment onto the 3rd transformer, crews preparing the underground vault for the third control trailer, and more storm water pipe installation on the south end of the new Megapack site.

I did notice that there was a significant amount of Cybercab drive testing today, all over the site using multiple Cybercabs and the ever present following black Model 3s. There was so much activity that I captured on video that I’ll make a separate stand-alone Cybercab testing video today as well.
