Big IDRA Delivery, Model Y Prod Soars, & N Concrete Footings! 26 Mar 2025 Giga Texas Update(08:35AM)

From Joe Tegtmeyer.

Gigafactory Texas! This is where Model Y’s, and Cyber Truck production happens and in 2025, the Next Generation Car(s), Cybercab & the Optimus Robot!

Busy day with many interesting developments across the site. Perhaps the most important of these developments is the obvious significant uptick in Model Y production, as we see the west outbound lot full of Model Y’s and more departing from the factory and headed over in numbers larger than I can recall the first 2 ½ months of this year.

Another big development with the Model Y”s is that it appears Giga Texas is now manufacturing a lot of non-Launch edition Model Ys as can be seen with my still images from the outbound lot. The Tesla design studio for ordering cars has not yet been updated to show these changes, but since we can see this is happening at the factory, the change in ordering options is soon to be updated. This will add more flexibility for customers to choose what they want in their new Model Y and reduce the price accordingly.

As a reminder, I will not be doi9ng a Giga Texas drone flight on Friday, 28 March because I am headed out to the Chattanooga Charge Tesla event and will be giving the Keynote address. I hope to see some of you out there and I hope the address will be captured on video so I can share my discussion about Giga Texas, and by default, Tesla’s use of Minimum Essential Capabilities (MEC) and Agile Project Management techniques to construction and what this tells us about how Giga Texas (and Tesla’s other factories) will continue to be developed and change in the future.

A few other highlights for today include:

The new welcome center construction site is getting fill dirt delivered and general preparation of the site but so far, I do not see the huge earth working equipment I think will be needed. Nevertheless, progress is being made in this location just west of the north bridge over Telsa Road.

A huge delivery of an IDRA Casting Machine was underway today, and I think, but cannot confirm, this is another 9K-ton Giga Press. There have been rumors of its impending arrival, and with what I was able to see today, that may be what is going on. Where this will be installed inside is a good question, as the entire space is getting full with several of the aluminum recycling furnaces, the other 8 Giga Presses and other equipment that was inside on my last visit back in July 2024.

The new Megapack site has a set of steel platforms being assembled on the north end, while more conduit work is underway on that end of the site as well. Nearby, the large valley or pond that is a remnant of the old sand and gravel mining that used to take place here is getting filled in with significant earth moving machinery at work today. Once this is filled and graded, the expansion of the electrical switchyard can commence.
