Discussion with Aalo Atomics CTO, Factory & Aalo Pod Unveiling 7 April 2025

From Joe Tegtmeyer.

I recently attended the World Premier of the Aalo-0 Nuclear Reactor Pathfinder, Aalo Nuclear factory & the unveiling of the new Aalo Pod Small Modular Reactor (SMR) built right here in Austin, Texas!

For this video, I was fortunate to be able to talk with the CTO and Co-Founder of Aalo Atomics, Yasir Arafat. In this video, I use clips from our discussion 6 months ago at the grand opening of this factory, and video during the world unveiling of that same factory now that it is operational and building the first Aalo-0 pathfinder reactor along with the announcement of the new Aalo Pod on-site reactor complex designed to meet the rapidly growing energy demands of AI Datacenters across the country!

Yasir Arafat is an accomplished expert in the nuclear field and may be one of the most influential people in the resurgence of nuclear!

Yasir worked at Westinghouse for close to a decade. He contributed to a variety of projects including the AP1000, then went on to start the eVinci micro-reactor program.

Yasir subsequently joined there Idaho National Laboratories (INL) and became the project lead behind the MARVEL microreactor, the first new advanced reactor built in the US in decades. In just 3 years, Yasir was able to lead a team at INL for the ideation, funding, designing, and testing of this novel reactor.

Recently, Yasir and the team at INL made US Nuclear history: They received a “90% design complete” seal of approval from the DOE. This is the first such approval since the DOE was formed in 1977. Construction of MARVEL has now started and is expected to complete next year.

At Aalo, Yasir will be leading the design of the Aalo-1, a 10 MWe reactor inspired by MARVEL. It too will use unpressurized liquid-metal coolant, and fuel that’s commonly used in university campus reactors. This unique combination will result in the same great level of safety as today’s water-based reactors, but will be even more economical. Aalo-1 will be perfect for use in powering data centers, industrial process heat applications, and one day, may compete at utility scale.

Join me in this one of a kind look at the unveiling of the worlds first nuclear reactor mass production factory, learn about their design, plans and business model, and see the first Aalo-0 pathfinder reactor and the new Aalo Pod on-site nuclear facility.
