Plant Manager Tour! Scrap Recycling, Temp Platform Removed! 5 May 2025 Giga Texas Update (07:35AM)

From Joe Tegtmeyer.

Gigafactory Texas! This is where Model Y’s, and Cyber Truck production happens and in 2025, the Next Generation Car(s), Cybercab & the Optimus Robot!

It was a gorgeous morning to fly today over Giga Texas, and this was especially nice because heavy rains were forecasted (and did start coming through) just after I finished flying!

Even though it was an early Monday morning, a lot of construction and production activity was observed across the site, including a good look at more autonomous driving of new vehicles from the factory and to the west outbound lot.

In the video introduction, I show some portions of interviews recently completed with the plant manager, Jason Shawhan and three Giga Texas employees with both views into the main factory production lines for the Model Y and Cybertruck and information about how Tesla operates that make them a very unique company.

I’m particularly happy to see Jason highlighted in this video clips as he (and his team) has done an amazing job balancing production, line upgrades, and major construction all at the same time at Giga Texas … something I think is far underappreciated by the public. I was also happy to hear from the three employees John, Ryan and Leah about their view son current events, what the culture of Telsa is like and their personal thoughts about Elon Musk and what he means to the company.

Links to the full videos are below in the sources section and I hope you watch then to get a better appreciation of what is happening behind the walls of Giga Texas and hear their thoughts directly.

A few additional highlights to look for today include:

Recycling operations on the east side of the casting machine section of the main factory were well underway today, with what appears to be a new process using recycled aluminum wheels sources from off site and using all kinds of different manufacturers.

Also on the east side of casting, we see dozens and dozens (into the hundreds for sure) front and rear castings for the Cybercab. I was able to get great close-up views of these today, both in video and still images, and I have been told that these are in fact, Cybercab castings.

On the north construction site, more steel has been assembled onto the hew facility, roof decking is in place on the south end (working to the north), the last of the footings being prepared for excavation and rebar on the north end and perimeter grade beam completion for the entire perimeter of the new facility. More steel was being delivered and sorted today at the time of the drone flight.

Megapack #2 wiring work continues, now with about 35% of the Megapacks connected to their respective transformers in the arrangement of 2 megapacks per 1 transformer. None of the cables from the transformers to the north electrical equipment stand have been made yet.

On the west side of the south extension, the old temporary loading platform has been removed and the window line transition area between the old building and the new extension is nearing completion. Today crews were getting ready to replace the concrete wall panel which was removed for the loading platform, and this will allow the final glass to be installed.
