What does true electric efficiency really look like? In this video, Nicola Hume gets behind the wheel of one of the most extraordinary electric vehicles Renault has ever built: the Filante Record 2025. This futuristic demo car has just rewritten the rulebook by covering more than 620 on a single charge, using an 87 kWh battery the same size as the one found in the Renault Scenic E-Tech electric – and doing it at realistic motorway speeds of 70mph.
The Filante Record 2025 isn’t a concept designed to look good on a motor show stand. It’s a rolling laboratory, weighing just 1,000 kg and packed with cutting-edge technology, including steer-by-wire and brake-by-wire systems, ultra-light materials, 3D-printed components and bespoke low-rolling-resistance Michelin tyres. Wind tunnel development played a crucial role too, with extensive aerodynamic revisions helping to slash drag and maximise efficiency.
Inspired by Renault’s historic record breakers and aviation design, this stunning machine shows just how far electric vehicle efficiency can be pushed today – and what could soon filter down into future road cars. Nicola takes you through what it’s like to drive this remarkable machine and explains why this record really matters for everyday EVs.
