From Alex on Autos.
Behold! The 2027 Kia Seltos has dropped, and it’ll finally have a hybrid under the hood! Which hybrid? Excellent question. Kia won’t say yet. All we know is that when it goes on sale in about a year in N. America, it’ll be bigger (about 2 inches longer and a hair wider) and have a longer wheelbase than before, which promises more cargo room and more legroom in the back. Things that are in comically short supply in some of the competition.
Under the hood we get a 2.0L engine that’ll likely come to the USA, it makes 146 ponies and is connected to a CVT. Yawn. FWD or AWD is available with that engine. Then we have two 1.6L turbos, one making 177 HP with a 6-speed manual or a DCT that we *won’t* get in the USA, and one that makes 190 HP that we probably will get but it swaps the DCT for a regular 8-speed auto.
What about the hybrid? Nobody knows, but since this rides on the same K3 platform as the Hyundai Elantra and the Kia Niro, it could be the 1.6L hybrid found in those cars, or an entirely different system. It’s anyone’s guess.
Also anyone’s guess? How much it’ll cost. Expect pricing to stick close to the existing model plus any readjustments due to tariffs since it’ll be built in South Korea for N. American consumption
