Gen 2 Rivian R1T Review: 16 Months, 42K Miles, and Real Abuse

From Dominic Wilkerson.

After 42,000 miles in just 16 months, my Gen 2 Rivian R1T Tri-Max has been through a lot … camping trips, search and rescue missions, off-road abuse, tire swaps, efficiency testing, broken parts, software quirks, and plenty of daily use.

In this video, I walk around the R1T and share what has held up, what has broken, what I love, and what still annoys me. I talk about my real-world efficiency with and without the Super Pacific camper, tire performance after thousands of miles, interior durability, Rivian service experiences, Autonomy Plus, Connect Plus, the Rivian voice assistant, and whether I would buy another R1 again.

I also explain why I’m considering trading this R1T for the upcoming Rivian R2, what I expect from the R2, and whether I might come back to an R1S or even a future off-road-focused Rivian.

If you’re considering a used Rivian R1T, a Gen 2 Tri-Max, or you’re curious how these trucks hold up under serious real-world use, this one’s for you.
