We Tried Rivian’s Answer To Tesla Full Self-Driving

From InsideEVs.

At Rivian’s Autonomy & AI Day in December, Senior Editor Tim Levin got a sneak peek at how the startup is upping its tech game.

Follow along as he sits in on two demos of future Rivian features. First, we get a tour of the Rivian Assistant, a new AI voice assistant that will launch with Google Calendar integration and the ability to control vehicle functions.

Then, Tim sits in the back seat of an R1S and gets a preview of the company’s autonomous vehicle roadmap. Rivian plans to launch a point-to-point driver-assistance feature in 2026 based on its “Large Driving Model” or LDM. That will be a lot like what Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) is today.

In this demo, an early version of that system pilots the R1S around the streets of Palo Alto, California, while a Rivian engineer explains what’s going on and answers questions.
