Renault 5 EV Breakdown on the Highway! My Long Distance Test Failed…

Description:
This was not the video I expected to make.

I started a long distance test with the new Renault 5 electric, planning to drive more than 800 km to the Hockenheimring for the AIT e-competition. Everything started normally: highway driving at 130 km/h, testing efficiency, charging and real-world range.

But halfway through the trip something unexpected happened.

While driving on a busy German autobahn, the Renault 5 suddenly lost power and displayed a failure message for the electric motor and brake system. I had to roll onto the emergency lane and wait for roadside assistance.

Important: this does not automatically mean the Renault 5 is unreliable. Renault told me they have never seen this issue before and they are currently investigating what caused it.

Sometimes things simply happen during real-world testing.
