Major oil industry trade groups have spent millions lobbying and advertising against policies designed to accelerate electric vehicles.

Organizations like the American Petroleum Institute and the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers have funded campaigns opposing stricter vehicle emissions standards and EV mandates, often framing them as threats to consumer choice or “gas car bans.”

The industry says it is defending energy security and affordability.

But there’s also a simple economic reality: electric cars run on electricity, not gasoline.

And every EV on the road means less demand for oil.
