BMW i5 xDrive40 Review: 85k for a Mid-Range EV? Is BMW Asking Too Much?

From Autogefuel.

BMW i5 xDrive40 (2025/2026) | The Best Electric 5-Series, but at what cost?

The BMW i5 xDrive40 is technically the "sweet spot" in the line-up. It finally adds All-Wheel Drive and a healthy power bump to 394 hp, sitting comfortably between the entry-level eDrive40 and the insane M60. But there is a massive elephant in the room: the price.

My test model today comes in at a staggering €85,000.

In this video, we aren’t just looking at how well it drives (spoiler: it’s very nice), we’re asking if BMW’s proposition actually makes sense in 2026. This is essentially the electric version of the legendary 5-Series, meaning the build quality, the tech are all top-tier. But with the competition heating up, is "being a BMW" enough to justify this price tag?

I want to hear from you: If you had 85,000 to spend on an EV, would the i5 be at the top of your list, or are you looking elsewhere? Let me know in the comments!
