Kia were already onto a winner with their EVs, and then the EV3 came along and became a genuine hit. I tested one last year and loved it — so the EV4 had a lot to live up to.
The Kia EV4 sits above the EV3 in size, is Kia’s first electric saloon, and offers their longest range EV so far. It’s a very European Kia too: developed for European tastes, tested on European roads, with the hatchback built in Slovakia and the fastback built in Korea.
Available as a hatchback or a controversial fastback, the EV4 combines strong practicality, up to 388 miles of range (spec-dependent), 201bhp, and Kia’s excellent interior design. Charging is respectable at 29–31 minutes to 80%, though I do wish Kia had offered an 800V option — and yes, I still think hiding the heat pump in the top trim is annoying.
Overall, the EV4 feels like another well-judged, refined all-rounder from Kia. It won’t win every spec-sheet battle against newer Chinese rivals, but as a Korean-designed, European-built EV, I think it’s going to sell extremely well.
