If there is one thing I love about our Tesla Model Y, it is road trips! I can’t get enough road trips in our Tesla. Now we have our new Juniper Refresh Model Y, and this is the first time we have had a chance to take a real road trip in the car.
We have been road tripping in a Tesla Model Y since 2020, and it has been great. One thing that has changed at Tesla over that time is that the newer generation vehicles are capable to getting much closer to their EPA rated range than they used to be. This means better efficiency and longer stretches between charging.
Although the new refresh Tesla Model Y does not have faster charging speeds, it does travel faster as it is able to travel farther per kWh than the older generation. Our Model Y is a 2026 Tesla Model Y LR AWD Launch Series. It was ordered with the 20" wheels and is rated at 303 miles on a full charge. Although smaller wheels and the rear wheel drive version would be better for road trip efficiency, I was extremely pleased with the performance of this car vs our previous Model Y.
As summer is in full swing, the first major event is in Michigan for the Tesla Owners Club Michigan Summer Meetup. This annual event celebrates EV’s and brings together members of the community to celebrate our common admiration for EV’s and learn from top level keynote speakers.
Part 1 follows us in our new Model Y from Orlando Florida, stopping first in Indianapolis where my kids will be starting with my parents for the weekend before finally finishing the trip up to MUSKegon, MI.
On the first evening of the event, we were all treated to the most incredible light show I have seen to date, hosted by Simon (https://xlightshows.io). This was the first time we have seen the talented Simon combine the incredible show we get in the cars with 400 drones that lit up the sky.
