Winter Storm over! 62 Cortex 2 Megapacks So Far! 4 MY BIW’s! 28 Jan 2026 Giga Texas Update (11:35AM)

From Joe Tegtmeyer.

Gigafactory Texas! This is where Model Y’s, and Cyber Truck production happens and in 2026, the Next Generation Car(s), Cybercab & the Optimus Robot!

I flew the afternoon of 27 January for these images (and will release the video on 28 January) because the temperatures finally went above 32 F (0 C) and I did not want to fly tomorrow in below freezing temps.

Also, I tried (unsuccessfully) to get a Robotaxi ride this afternoon, but the service (and Waymo as well) was not operation because of lingering direction from the City of Austin to avoid travel even though conditions seemed pretty good to me. It was eerie driving around downtown Austin and not seeing any Waymo’s, Robotaxi’s or any other autonomous vehicles.

Production at Giga Texas is slowly coming back online after the winter storm and factory opens back up. Shift schedules have moved to Tuesday thru Friday this week and some overtime too with the goal to try and make up for the down day on Monday.

The Huge Sarens Crane is working near Cortex 2 and has already placed 48 of 62 Megapacks delivered on site so far. There is room on the entire west side of Cortex 2 for at least 2X this number, so we may eventually see around 150 more Megapacks added to Giga Texas and this is on top of the 140 Megapacks already installed! This will be one of the largest Megapack installations Telsa has done world-wide once completed!

The Chiller plant Part 1 continues its vertical assembly while Part 2 is getting more rebar cages assembled to extend more of the concrete work at the base of the perimeter walls.

Possibly due to a power outage last Friday, there are 4 Model Y Bodies outside of the paint shop north end. I heard that the power outage affected a few minor parts of the factory but which ones and the effects is speculation on my part. Megapack #1 was likely redirected to support the surrounding grid and this might have caused the minor power issues.

As a reminder, today is the 4th quarter and 2025 year Financial Results meeting where we will find out how well Tesla did last quarter and for the full year. This meeting may also provide some details about what we may expect to come later in 2026 for new products, services and construction.

Much more to see today in the images and talk about in the video once it comes out! Thanks for watching and good luck to Tesla at the Financial Results meeting today!
