From Dominic Wilkerson.
Sold the Super Pacific camper and turned that into something completely different.
I picked up a 2000 Toyota Land Cruiser with 227,000 miles and started building it into a dedicated search and rescue and camping rig. It might seem like a downgrade on paper, especially coming from a Rivian R1T, but for what I actually use my vehicles for… it makes more sense.
This isn’t a full build yet. Just the start.
In this video I go through why I sold the Super Pacific, how I ended up with this Land Cruiser, and what I’ve already started changing. I also talk about why I’m shifting certain use cases away from the Rivian and into something simpler and easier to rely on in the long run.
We cover:
Why I sold the camper
Buying a high mileage Land Cruiser (227k miles)
My history with Toyota and off roading
First upgrades (tires, bumper, lighting)
Suspension and build plans
Search and rescue setup and real world use
Rivian vs Land Cruiser for off road and SAR
This build is going to stay simple. Reliable. Something I can take into the mountains, use for search and rescue, and not worry about.
If you’re looking into Land Cruiser 100 Series builds, overland setups, or comparing EV trucks to older 4×4 platforms, this should help.
