Mercedes-AMG has finally entered the electric super saloon battle, and it’s come out swinging. In this full walkaround, Nicki Shields takes a closer look at the all-new electric AMG GT 4-Door Coupé, a car designed to take on the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT and Audi e-tron GT with some truly outrageous numbers.
With up to 1,184hp, nearly 2,000Nm of torque and a triple axial-flux motor setup, this is officially the most powerful AMG ever built. Performance is predictably wild, with 0-62mph in just 2.1 seconds and a 186mph top speed, but AMG says this EV is about much more than outright speed. Features like torque vectoring, configurable Race Engineer controls, simulated gearshifts and active aerodynamics are all designed to make the GT feel emotional and engaging to drive.
There’s serious battery tech underneath too. The 106kWh battery uses an innovative oil-cooled system and 800V architecture capable of charging at up to 600kW DC, allowing a claimed 10-80% charge in as little as 11 minutes and up to 268 miles of range added in just 10 minutes on a powerful enough charger. Maximum WLTP range is claimed at up to 370 miles.
Nicki also explores the dramatic styling, futuristic interior and AMG’s latest technology, including the huge display setup, illuminated grille details, active aero elements and the controversial new design language.
