Tyres are one of the most important things on your EV — and one of the most misunderstood. I visited Guildford Tyre Company to fit Hankook FlexClimate iON all-season tyres to my Kia e-Niro, and got a masterclass from director Matt Sunderland along the way: what all those numbers on the sidewall actually mean, how the fitting process works (TPMS sensors, balancing, directional tyres and more), and whether EVs really do wear tyres faster than petrol cars.
A few months later, I met up with Gary from the EV Musings podcast, who’d fitted Hankook iON EVO summer tyres to his Polestar 2 at around the same time. We compared notes on handling, noise (measured with a decibel meter app) and real-world efficiency.
