Donut Lab’s Battery has a Problem with Physics (and manufacturing)

From The Limiting Factor.

Donut Lab claims to have a battery that achieves a whopping 400 Wh/kg of energy density, charges in 5 minutes, lasts for 100,000 cycles, uses abundant non-toxic materials, can maintain performance at extremely low temperatures, is safe at very abusive temperatures, and is lower cost than lithium ion batteries.

The question is: Is the Donut Battery real?

In my view, it’s not, and in today’s video, I’m going to walk you through why that’s the case from a first principles physics perspective and from a more pragmatic manufacturing perspective.

These are the part of my system I purchased from Signature Solar:
-EG4 6000XP Off-Grid Inverter (I use this for my grid-tied solar system with battery backup)
-SnapNrack | TopSpeed™ | Solar Panel Roof Mount Kit (you can also get a skirt)
-SnapNrack, GROUNDING LUG
-PV 2 Wire Management Clip
-10 AWG Copper PV Wire | Black and Red
-Staubli | 20A | 1000V | In-line Fuse with MC4 Connectors (your amps may vary)
-I cobbled together the cheapest solar and batteries from other sites. I expected it to save me money, but it ended up costing more for integration and I lost some functionality. If I did it again, I’d just by everything from Signature Solar in a package – they have kits with the batteries, inverter, and panels.
