Gigafactory Texas! This is where Model Y’s, and Cybertruck production happens and in 2025, the Next Generation Car(s), Cortex 1 & 2, Cybercab & the Optimus Robot!
I flew in the late morning and early afternoon on the 23rd because of commitments and to capture the first views of the production Cybercabs including the much more striking glossy deep gold color which is molded-in-color thermoplastic injection molding and dispenses with the older “engineering” testing versions.
The official announcement of this final version was made by Tesla at the 1st quarter financial results meeting on Wednesday, 22 April, so being able to show these outside and in the sunlight was a great reason to fly on Thursday.

In the video introduction, I review three major construction projects and the official start of production of the Cybercabs as announced by Tesla at the 1st quarter financial meeting.
The first of these is the groundbreaking ceremony and an image of this posted in the shareholder deck. We learned that this will be a $3 billion project and will be funded partially by Tesla and partially by SpaceX. How this will actually be accomplished and who will have responsibilities for what part of the construction, equipment installation and operation of the chip development, but we did hear the construction to initial operation should take about 18 months, which means sometime in late 2027.
The second major project discussed is Cortex 2.0 and the company confirmed that this AI Datacenter is already in partial operation, providing important data and training for the Optimus Robot. This is consistent with what we are seeing on the site, with the first part of the cooling system, the Megapack system and interior equipment already installed and visibly operating. I also show an image inside Cortex 2 of the West Hall with some of the computers in operation.
The third major project is on the far north end of the property which was permitted as the “North Campus” and we see visible construction underway for a massive foundation. Tesla confirmed that this is in fact the 10M/yr Optimus Factory, which should put to an end some of the questions viewers have had about the purpose of this site. They also mentioned they expect initial production to occur sometime late in 2027, which is reasonable based on the state and pace of construction visible today.
Finally, Tesla confirmed that the Cybercab production line has officially achieved the “Start of Production” (SOP) which is a major milestone signaling production variants that can be used for Robotaxi service or possible for sale. Tesla provided an image of the first production vehicle (VIN #001) and then released a video clip of Cybercabs departing the end of the line and out of the factory. All of this is consistent with what we have seen and what I’ve reported over the past several months
A few other highlights:
In addition to capturing the production versions of the Cybercab in the outbound lot, I also captured four of the older “engineering” versions of the Cybercabs being loaded onto transport trucks. Is this the last time we will be seeing wrapped satin gold colored Cybercabs? I’m not sure but something to watch over the coming days and few weeks.
At the material staging yard just north of the multi-level parking garage now has new trailers that will allow contractor operations to move from the east side to clear up space for construction and part of a larger relocation project that spans most of the overall site.
On the west side material staging, we see some of the stored transformers being picked up by a forklift and being placed onto trailers for movement off site.
