At CONEXPO 2026, Alex speaks with Deepak Pingalay, Chief Commercialization Officer at Dimaag, to take a closer look at their swappable-battery version of the Hitachi ZX17U – a compact electric mini excavator designed to keep working all day.

Dimaag handled the battery and powertrain integration so the machine feels much like the original diesel ZX7U, but with modular batteries that can be swapped quickly to keep the excavator running without long charging stops.

In this video, we walk through the removable battery system, how the modules are designed to be light and easy to handle, and how the charging system keeps them ready for continuous operation. We also discuss the LFP battery chemistry, thermal management, and how Dimaag integrates the motors, inverters, and vehicle controls to maintain a familiar operator experience while bringing electrification to compact construction equipment.
