From Out of Spec Podcast.
I charge my Rivian R1T from a standard NEMA 5-15 outlet in my garage — the same 120V wall outlet most homes have. I use the Rivian mobile connector with a 12-gauge extension cord, and it delivers about 1.3–1.6 kW of power. It sounds crazy, but it actually works well for how I drive!
In this video, I show my full setup and explain why I never installed a Level 2 charger at home (full breaker box, solar plans, a future addition — and honestly, some laziness). I also cover the real-world range I get from overnight charging, other charging options I use like Level 2 at school and Rivian Adventure Network fast chargers, and the potential risks — including outlet wear and why extension cords generally aren’t recommended.
