From Out of Spec Podcast.
This is the 2027 Mercedes EQS, and while it might look pretty similar on the outside, underneath it’s basically a next-generation S-Class EV.
Mercedes has completely reworked the platform, moving to an 800V architecture, adding new motors and even a two-speed rear transmission, plus boosting usable battery capacity to around 122 kWh. The result? A claimed 925km WLTP range – which should translate to roughly 500 miles in the real world.
But the real story is in the charging and efficiency upgrades. We’re talking up to 35kW peak charging, with Mercedes claiming about 200 miles added in just 10 minutes. You also get thinner cabling, improved thermal management, and a split battery pack that can still pull around 175kW on 400V stations. On top of that, regen can hit up to 385kW.
So in this video, I’m diving into all the real changes and what actually matters for driving and charging this new EQS.
