Gigafactory Texas! This is where Model Y’s, and Cybertruck production happens and in 2025, the Next Generation Car(s), Cortex 1 & 2, Cybercab & the Optimus Robot!
Today is Good Friday, so not a lot of activity at the site today, compounded by heavy rains and thunderstorms that came through the area overnight. The rains have left much of the construction areas muddy with a lot of standing water, but despite all this, some crews were out working on grade work, River Road extension earthwork, electrical switchyard transformer assembly and work assembling more of the Cortex 2.0 Part 2 cooling system superstructure.

In the video introduction, I talk about why there is no production today (which is normal), but this is also related to the Model Y General Assembly pause for line upgrades, maintenance and more. It appears Cybercab production is also paused, with all but one Cybercab transported off site and no new Cybercabs at the factory exit point.
It is possible this is because of final actions needed before initial production beginning in the upcoming week, which would be consistent with what Tesla has indicated previously. Hopefully we will get visual indications of this nex week.
I talk about some of the areas around the site we visit today, including construction south of the Colorado River, progress with final grade work and soil removal at the Test Track, and paving of River Road’s extension on the southwest side of the site.
I also discuss progress at the North Campus with many GeoPier vehicles and equipment staged and ready to begin pier construction next week. Additionally, more grade preparation, earthwork, in-fill and some excavation work was underway at the north site.
I also provide an update to the NASA Artemis II on-going lunar mission, with a recap of the launch on 1 April, the Trans-Lunar Injection burn to set them on the trajectory to rendezvous with the moon in about 4 days, some amazing imagery that was captured during the launch by a NASA Cessna aircraft and a wonderful image of the entire Earth bathed with moonlight.
One area of interest I visited today was Cortex 2, where we see more work on part 2 of the cooling system, with more FRP beam installation to build out the first 2 bays for fans. The enclosure for the fans, along with parts and drive motors for the fans were delivered on site and stored on the south end of the existing Megapack 2 site. One of the 6 fans on part 1 of the main cooling system appeared to be undergoi9ng testing today.
In addition, to this work on the east side, crews and a crane were installing more of the platforms and scaffolding for conduit and cable trays along the west side of Cortex 2 in preparation of adding more transformers, electronic cabinets and more Megapacks.
