We snuck a Volkswagen ID. Era 9X into our hotel parking lot in Beijing and spent a soaking, lightning-filled evening poking at every button—with Vanessa along for the adventure. This is Volkswagen’s new China three-row: a range-extended EV (65 kWh battery + 1.5L range extender), 800V architecture, rear steer, double-chamber air suspension, Momenta ADAS – and it feels like a completely different brand. The CLTC number is 1,600 km (roughly 900-1,000 miles), base rear-drive ~300 hp, optioned to ~500 hp, and the fully loaded demo we saw was listed at about $51k USD (they said base ~$45k).
