From Out of Spec Motoring.
Alex takes his self-upgraded Tesla Model S on a 3,500-mile road trip from Oregon to North Carolina to see how this DIY-converted EV holds up on a real cross-country drive. Originally a 70D, this Model S now runs a 100D battery pack that Alex installed himself — and while the car shows around 300 miles of rated range at 100%, the real-world highway number is closer to 250 miles. Even more impressive, the car has 480,000 miles on it! Along the way, he tests charging, efficiency, comfort, and whether an older Tesla can still crush huge road trips in 2026.
