Mystery Car, Track Asphalt, ~45 Cybercabs & Big Construction! 6 May 2026 Giga Texas Update (08:35AM)

From Joe Tegtmeyer.

Gigafactory Texas! This is where Model Y’s, and Cybertruck production happens and in 2025, the Next Generation Car(s), Cortex 1 & 2, Cybercab & the Optimus Robot!

Busy day with interesting finds at Giga Texas today! I was fortunately able to complete a full drone flight today just beating out the rain showers that came through as I landed for the last time today!

Some information about production planning for the factory as we move into the rest of May. As you know, we have the Memorial Day holiday coming up & ramping up more of the production capacity, the shift hours are changing in the factory, particularly for General Assembly (GA).

Over the next 4-6 weeks at least. GA is on voluntary Over Time (OT) today (Wednesday) and Thursday is mandatory OT. Memorial Day will be a day of no production, but they will work on Friday, 29 May.

Looking into June, OT will happen on 12 June and 26 June, making for two weeks of 5 days of production. This is for Model Ys but is also related to the ramping up Cybertruck production to begin fulfilling the orders for the $59,990 AWD variant. I would expect to see more of this continue well into June and perhaps later in the summer as the number of Cybertruck orders is quite high.

Finally, expect Cybercab production to continue slowly ramping over the next several weeks … not able to say what a daily rate will be yet, but it will be increasing.

New information about the SpaceX and Tesla joint venture to build a computer chip Terafactory indicates one possible site is about 100 miles east of Giga Texas in Grimes County and near College Station. This $55 Billion initial project may eventually grow to $119 Billion, and the facility itself will be many times larger than the main Giga Texas building!

It is important to note this is in addition to the Advanced Technology Chip Fab construction currently underway on the east side of Giga Texas. These two facilities will work together to design, test, iterate and then produce the next generations of AI computer chips to support many new products for Tesla and SpaceX.

We get some great views of the new Test Track today, and I was happy to see that crews were starting asphalt application on the driving surfaces! This is a great indication the drainage system is now completed, and we are getting to the end of the project. I can’t wait to see what we find using the track in the coming months!

Although the track itself is obviously designed for cars to drive and test on prepared surfaces, I did talk to someone who was aware of the plans for the track, and we talked about possibly making a Cybertruck off-road section in the in-field area where the ponds are. I think this is a great idea, but I’m not sure if that will happen or not.

Cybercabs are multiplying at Giga Texas today, with some driving on the EOL test track, and I got a great opportunity to see a matte wrapped & production glossy gold versions side by side … great way to see the difference up close!

About 40-50 Cybercabs were observed all over the site today, including some testing out the factory exit to the W EOL facility routes, many of the prototypes at the Crash Testing facility today (possibly for recycling) and more!

At the far north, progress is evident all over the area, including on the “lone tree” field, the Optimus factory foundation and the extension of River Road. The main foundation continues to see GeoPier work, footing construction and concrete pours, rebar cages and gravel application.

Giga Texas has a new “mystery” car under a cover & the wheels also masked off with white vinyl. Fortunately, I was able to get a top-down view of this one next to another Model Y & a Cybertruck for comparison. Any ideas what this might be?
